8 Amazon Subscribe & Save Items That Are Genuinely Cheaper Than the Store

Last Thursday, I was crouched in my pantry doing that sad mom math where you count snack bars like they’re gold bars. My youngest was chanting “hungry” at a volume that could rattle cereal boxes, and I was holding a store receipt thinking, wow, I really paid that for paper towels.

So I pulled up Amazon while sitting on the kitchen floor (glamorous), compared a few regular things we burn through, and set up Subscribe & Save on the ones that were consistently cheaper than my local Target/Kroger run. The first one surprised me enough that I checked it twice.

Huggies Natural Care Sensitive Baby Wipes (12-pack) beat Target by $4.27

We’re technically “past wipes,” except… we’re not. Sticky hands, car-seat spills, mystery sidewalk goo. At Target, the Huggies Natural Care Sensitive refill packs were coming out to about $2.79 per pack in my last receipt. On Amazon Subscribe & Save, the 12-pack worked out to $2.43 per pack after the 15% discount, which saved me $4.27 on the box. The bigger win: I didn’t do that thing where I “stretch” wipes by using one for three messes, like I’m training for the Wipe Olympics.

Finish Quantum Dishwasher Detergent (82-count) was $6.18 cheaper than Kroger

I learned this one after a full-on dishwasher tantrum. I bought the exact same Finish Quantum (not the store brand) at Kroger on March 3rd because we were out and I was desperate. It was $23.99. Later that night, Amazon had the 82-count on Subscribe & Save at $17.81 with the discount. Same scent, same “why is there peanut butter cement on the spoons” problem, just less money thrown at it. Now it shows up before I hit the “one pod left” panic.

Bounty Select-A-Size Paper Towels (12=24 rolls) undercut Costco by $3.63

I know, I know: Costco is supposed to win this category. But the last time I bought Bounty at Costco, the math worked out to about $2.15 per “regular roll” once you convert their mega-roll math into reality. Amazon’s Subscribe & Save deal I locked in was $48.22 for the 12=24 pack, which came out closer to $2.00 per regular roll. That’s a $3.63 difference on one order. Also, not having to wedge a paper towel pack into my trunk next to three backpacks and a rogue soccer ball is its own form of savings.

Tide Pods Original (76-count) came in $5.94 below Walmart’s in-store price

I’m not loyal to many things, but I am loyal to not having my kids smell like damp towel. Walmart had the 76-count Tide Pods at $27.97 the week of April 12th (I took a photo because I’m apparently 80 years old inside). Amazon Subscribe & Save had the exact 76-count at $22.03 after discount, so $5.94 cheaper. The real benefit is I stopped “rationing” detergent and then acting shocked when the laundry comes out looking clean but smelling like a locker room confession.

Glad ForceFlex Tall Kitchen Drawstring Trash Bags (90-count) beat Target by $7.11

Trash bags are one of those things I only notice when they fail at the worst possible moment. Target’s price for the 90-count Glad ForceFlex tall kitchen bags was $20.49 when I grabbed them during a “quick run” that took 47 minutes. Amazon Subscribe & Save dropped them to $13.38 after the discount on my last delivery, so $7.11 saved for the privilege of not cleaning up a leaking bag of yogurt cups. My husband actually said, “These feel thicker,” which is basically his version of poetry.

Colgate Kids Toothpaste (Watermelon Burst, 4.6 oz, 3-pack) was $2.86 cheaper than CVS

My middle kid is in the phase where brushing teeth is a negotiation, and the only currency accepted is “the good toothpaste.” CVS had the Colgate Kids Watermelon Burst at $4.79 per tube behind a little plastic security tag like it’s diamonds. Amazon’s 3-pack on Subscribe & Save worked out to $3.84 per tube after discount. Over three tubes, that’s $2.86 saved, and I didn’t have to ask an employee to unlock toothpaste while my toddler tried to eat lip balm in Aisle 6.

Blue Diamond Almonds (40 oz bag, Smokehouse) was $4.09 less than Costco

This one is purely for my sanity. Almonds are my “I didn’t eat my kids’ leftover mac and cheese for lunch” snack. Costco had the 40 oz Blue Diamond Smokehouse almonds at $14.99 last time I went. Amazon Subscribe & Save had the same size at $10.90 after discount, so $4.09 cheaper. I keep them in the top cabinet like contraband. On day nine of having them delivered regularly, I realized I was snacking less on whatever broken crackers were living at the bottom of the pantry.

Brita Standard Water Filters (3-pack) came out $6.72 cheaper than Target

I always forget filters until the water starts tasting like the inside of a garden hose. Target’s 3-pack of Brita Standard filters was $21.99 on my run April 28th. Amazon Subscribe & Save had the 3-pack at $15.27 after discount, which is $6.72 cheaper for the exact same filters. My favorite part is the timing: I set it to arrive every two months, so I don’t do my usual move of ignoring the little “change filter” light for an entire season and then acting surprised by the taste.
